A dog was found in a scary predicament along a busy interstate — then came a harrowing rescue, video shows.

Crews rushed in to help the dog after she got stuck on a narrow beam of the Myrtle Avenue bridge in Florida. Video shows her standing on the side of the bridge that spans Interstate 95, a major East Coast thoroughfare.

“What could have been a devastating story turned into one of hope,” the city of Jacksonville’s Animal Care & Protective Services department wrote Dec. 14 on Facebook. “The officers were able to rescue this terrified dog in an incredibly humane, gentle way, getting her to safety as quickly as possible.”

Animal services shared footage of the heartwarming rescue after receiving an “urgent” call Dec. 12. The video shows officers using a leash and a net as they tried to capture the pup from the precarious spot.

The dog, named Myrtle, eventually was pulled to safety. Animal services didn’t say how it believes she got onto the bridge or whether she was available for adoption.

“She has since gained a huge fan club among staff and volunteers and is getting braver and braver every day,” animal services said.

It turns out, it’s not the first time a dog has been found on the Myrtle Avenue bridge. At least two other pups have made their way to the same area, according to Jacksonville officials.

Animal Care & Protective Services didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on Dec. 17.
