A war of words among neighbors turned terrifying when the offended man showed up in someone’s driveway with a sword in one hand and a homemade bomb in the other, according to investigators in southwest Florida.

It happened around 2 a.m. Sunday Dec. 8, on SE 8th Ave in Cape Coral and ended with the swordsman arrested, the Cape Coral Police Department said in a news release.

“The victim stated that (a neighbor) threatened him while holding a glass bottle with a cloth wrapped around its top, claiming it was a Molotov Cocktail,” police said.

“He threatened to throw it at one of the vehicles in the driveway and light it on fire. (He) also pulled out a sword and tapped the windshield of a vehicle while threatening the victim.”

A Ring doorbell camera recorded video of the encounter, police said.

The man was gone when police arrived, but was located at his home on the next block.

When interviewed, the 36-year-old man confirmed using a bottle with some gasoline in it and brandishing a sword “to make a point,” police said.

The suspect said “he went to the residence to send a message regarding disrespect to a family member,” police said. Details of that incident were not released.

He was arrested and charged with manufacturing and possessing an incendiary device, jail records show.

Cape Coral is about a 130-mile drive south from Tampa.
