Man selling headphones found dead in pond, Florida cops say. Now, 15-year-old charged
A 15-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder in the mysterious case of a body found in a submerged pickup, and Florida police didn’t have to look far to find him.
Dra’shawn Williams was already in jail on an unrelated charge, the Sanford Police Department said in an Aug. 21 news release.
Williams is accused of killing Brandon Leo, 22, who died as he sat in the driver’s seat of a pickup truck on July 20, McClatchy News reported.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, Brandon was meeting an unknown individual for the purpose of selling a pair of headphones,” police said in July.
“He arrived at the residence located at 1805 West (Third) Street and was waiting in his vehicle in the driveway. At least two unknown individuals approached the driver’s side of Brandon’s truck. During the interaction, Brandon begins reversing out of the driveway, then several gunshots were fired. The truck still in reverse, continues into the retention pond.”
West Third Street is lined with single-family homes, and maps show the fenced-in pond sits directly across from where Leo was parked.
Investigators did not reveal how Williams came to be linked to the shooting, or how long he has been in custody.
Details of the second suspect have not been released.
“A family is grieving the loss of their son over a pair of headphones. Senseless doesn’t begin to describe this tragedy,” Police Chief Cecil Smith said in the news release.
Sanford is about a 25-mile drive northeast from downtown Orlando.
