An unborn child died when an SUV rear-ended a motorcycle with two people aboard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 7:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, in the Dover community, about a 20-mile drive northeast from Tampa.

Investigators say the Suzuki motorcycle was being driven by a 35-year-old man, with the pregnant woman as his passenger. Both are from nearby Plant City.

The motorcycle was idling at a red light on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when a Toyota Venza driven by a 57-year-old man and with one passenger “failed to stop and collided with the motorcycle,” the highway patrol reports.

None among the four people involved were seriously hurt.

However, the 37-year-old pregnant woman “suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital,” officials said.

It was there that “her unborn child later expired as a result of the collision,” the highway patrol reports.

Investigators say the driver of the SUV also suffered minor injuries. His 56-year-old female passenger was not hurt.

Details of any charges have not been released.
