Dogs found wandering as strays after owner’s death need new home. Meet Zach and Cody
Two “sweet” dogs were found wandering as strays after their owner’s death — and now, they wait for a second chance.
“Zach and Cody are two gentle souls in need of a very special and loving home,” a Florida animal shelter wrote Aug. 8 in a Facebook post. “They have endured a heartbreaking journey since the passing of their original owner a few years ago. Since then, these sweet boys have been shuffled from one home to another, longing for stability and affection.”
Nassau County Animal Services learned about the dogs’ past after someone spotted them roaming the Callahan area, a roughly 20-mile drive northwest from Jacksonville. They came to the shelter as strays in early August, but none of their previous owners re-claimed them, community engagement coordinator Madison Ashley told McClatchy News in an email.
Now, the shelter hopes the dogs are adopted into the same home.
“It’s heartbreaking to think of them separated after all they’ve been through; we long for them to find comfort together in a forever home,” Animal Services wrote. “Zach and Cody deserve a chance to feel safe and cherished once more.”
The dogs — who have names similar to characters on the Disney Channel show “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” — are described as sweet and loving pups. Over the years, the two small dogs have formed a strong bond.
“Zach and Cody find comfort in each other’s company since it is the only stability they have known for a long time,” Ashley wrote. “Cody, the older one, looks up to Zach for leadership since Cody has some bad cataracts and seems to also be hard of hearing.”
As of Aug. 9, Animal Services said 6-year-old Zach and 13-year-old Cody were available for adoption at its shelter in the Yulee area. More details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at nassaucountyfl.com/845/Animal-Services.
