A senior dog with the “most charming quirks” is up for adoption in Florida.

“Lucy is a happy girl who even smiles by lifting her upper lip and doing happy sneezes when she gets really excited,” Humane Society Naples wrote June 12 on Facebook.

Lucy needs a second chance after experiencing a rough patch. She landed at the shelter in June when her owner got sick and died, according to the social media post and details shared with McClatchy News via email.

Now, 14-year-old Lucy is the shelter’s oldest resident. Despite her age, she’s known for her “youthful spirit” and fun-loving nature.

“Her years may say 14, however her spirit is energetic and bouncy,” the humane society wrote. “You would honestly never believe she was a senior dog because she has so much energy!”

The shelter believes the “loving” and “joyful” mixed-breed dog may get overlooked due to her age. It hopes someone will take a chance on adopting her or giving her a foster home.

“Lucy absolutely adores human company and prefers spending time with people over other dogs,” the humane society wrote, adding that she loves getting butt scratches, going on walks, taking naps and swimming.

As of early June 14, Lucy was still available for adoption in Naples, a roughly 165-mile drive south from Tampa. More details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at hsnaples.org.
