Florida

Its name is ‘Pirate Island’ for a reason — and its bungalows are for sale in Florida

They rob the poor under the cover of law, forsooth, and we plunder the rich under the protection of our own courage.

Samuel Bellamy had a reputation on the high seas, once upon a time.

It wasn’t the usual reputation of violence and thievery that pirates in the 1700s tended to receive. The man known as Black Sam was a hero of sorts who treated his crew equally and just, and would only rob the rich. Today, he’s known as the “Robin Hood of the Sea” who would “fight smart, harm few, score big.”

And now there are prime real estate opportunities on the island named in his honor in Gulf County, Florida. Nicknamed “Pirate Island,” the secluded place has a lot to offer.

“Welcome to Black’s Island, an intimate private island retreat where relaxation and recreation meet nature’s splendor. Located in the heart of St Joseph’s Bay, situated amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Gulf Coast, this seven-acre private island features waterfront bungalows for optimal seclusion; this is your opportunity to own a private island bungalow,” the listing on Jon Kohler & Associates says. “At Black’s Island, the perfect blend of coastal charm and modern comfort beckons you to experience island living at its finest.”

While the entire island has 26 private bungalows on the seven-acre beach, 11 are up for sale, with one-story bungalows listed for $1.5 million while the two-story ones are $1.6 million.

Features in the one-story bungalows include:

  • Two bedrooms with king-sized beds

  • Loft area with full bed

  • Two bathrooms

  • Kitchen

  • Living room

  • Dining area

  • Laundry room

  • Balcony

  • 1,225 square feet

Features in the two-story bungalows include:

  • 1,425 square feet

  • Two bedrooms with king-sized beds

  • Third bedroom with bunkbeds

  • Two bathrooms

  • One half-bathroom

  • Kitchen

  • Living room

  • Laundry room

  • Balcony

“Offering the perfect blend of comfort and a nature-forward design aesthetic, these rich, wood-toned bungalows provide the ultimate retreat for adventure, relaxation, and rejuvenation with beautiful panoramic views of the Gulf,” the listing says.

The listing is held by Jon Kohler, JD, Erica Kohler, and Lori Bembry Weldon.

Gulf County is about a 100-mile drive southwest of Tallahassee.
