A woman with Alzheimer’s and who doesn’t talk wandered away from her Southwest Florida home. Nearly a week later, she was found on Sunday.

According to a Facebook post from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the 80-year-old from the Crown Pointe Community in Naples was reported missing at around 2 p.m. Oct. 16.

Deputies soon hit the ground, going door to door, and began reviewing neighbors’ doorcam video. They finally noticed a “brief glimpse” of a person entering an open garage.

The homeowner was out of town so they reached out to the family and got permission to enter. The missing woman was located inside the garage. She was taken to a local hospital to evaluated.

Andrea Jones, spokesperson for the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, said a bloodhound and infrared technology were used in the effort.
