A driver left a scene of destruction after crashing into a home at a high speed in Lakeland, Florida, about a half-hour northeast of Tampa.

According to a police report from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded to the call at North Crystal Lake Drive around 2:10 a.m. Saturday.

Witnesses reported seeing a red SUV traveling toward their street at 100 mph when the driver failed to navigate a curve and smashed into the home. They said the car then backed away from the crash, and took off.

The 22-year-old driver was quickly pulled over and arrested. Deputies say the local man admitted to smashing his car into the side of the house, leaving a gaping hole.

In pictures taken by TV station WFLA-Channel 8, you can see the extent of the damage — at least one entire room is decimated, both the front and back walls gone, as if a hurricane blew through.

He was charged with leaving the scene of a crash.

The suspect “willfully failed to immediately stop at the scene of the crash or as close to the crash as possible and failed to remain until he had given identifying information any police officer investigating the crash,” says the arrest affidavit.
