Two friends were drinking and began to argue, Florida deputies say. One had a gun
Two Central Florida men got into an argument that turned violent early Friday morning, and one ended up arrested.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a shooting outside a house in DeLeon Springs, about an hour north of Orlando. shortly after 4 a.m.
They made contact with the 38-year-old suspect. He told deputies that he and a co-worker had been drinking outside all night, then got into an argument that “escalated.”
The suspect said the altercation began when the other man reportedly called the female friend at the gathering, also a co-worker of theirs, a “slut.”
The two men began to argue, with the victim breaking windows of all the cars on the property, and then moving toward him “aggressively” with an ashtray, according to the police report.
That’s when the suspect admitted to retrieving his firearm, a Glock semi-automatic handgun, from his bedroom. He then came back outside and fired two shots, one at each of his friend’s legs, because he “did not want to kill him,” the police report said.
The female friend told police that all three work together at a Chili’s in nearby DeLand and were “chilling” at the suspect’s home. She said that the two began to argue, with the suspect shooting the victim once in each of his legs, and then stood over him, pistol-whipping him in the head.
The victim, who was reported in stable condition in a local hospital, didn’t comply with the investigation because he said he was not a “snitch,” said the charging affidavit.
The suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail on $25,000 bond.
