An 83-year-old bicyclist was hit twice before an SUV driver left the scene of the deadly crash, Florida officials said.

The man was riding his bike when he reportedly tried to cross a street Sunday, April 16. That’s when a motorcycle hit the bike, pushing the 83-year-old rider onto the road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Then an SUV driver coming from the same direction is accused of hitting the bicyclist and driving away from the crash site. The man — from the Lehigh Acres community in Lee County — died at the scene, state troopers wrote in a news release.

Highway patrol continues to investigate the crash, which was reported at about 4:30 p.m. along Lee Boulevard, roughly 10 miles east of Fort Myers. The incident sent the 24-year-old motorcyclist to a hospital with critical injuries.

Troopers believe the hit-and-run driver was in a copper-colored Kia Sportage SUV.

People with details about the crash are asked to call Florida Highway Patrol at *FHP (*347) or Crime Stoppers at **8477.
