On Thursday, March 9, at approximately 5 p.m., Ocala Fire Rescue responded to reports of an explosion with possible burns at Edo’s Japanese Steakhouse, 4414 SW College Rd.

Two people were injured in a frightening fire at a Japanese steakhouse in Ocala, about an hour south of Gainesville, Florida, on Thursday.

According to a Facebook post from the local fire department, calls came in at 5 p.m. about “an explosion with possible burns” at Edo’s on Southwest College Road.

Crews were dispatched to the strip mall restaurant and were directed to the dining room, where the two burn victims were located. A spokeswoman from the Ocala Fire Department told the Miami Herald that the blaze started at the teppanyaki table while a chef was cooking on the hot open grill.

Units assessed the patients’ injuries and prepped them for transport to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, according to fire officials. The department did not give an update on their condition and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A man who answered the phone at Edo’s Friday morning said that the fire was extinguished quickly and that the restaurant was open for business.
