‘Cool!’ Check out this picture of a double rainbow over Florida. How rare is this?

After the deluge Floridians experienced the past few days thanks to Tropical Storm Alex came something beautiful.

Orlando resident James Velez managed to capture a double rainbow on Friday afternoon.

Fox 35 published a few of Velez’s snaps with the headline, “Whoa!” which he shared with his Facebook friends.

So how rare is this sight?

Definitely more so than a “normal,” single rainbow, a spectrum of colors that forms when sunlight slows down and bends as it goes through water droplets denser than the air, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather phenomenon of a second, fainter rainbow is created when the light bends twice in the water droplets.

The secondary rainbow is usually fainter than the original and shows colors in the reverse order (red being on the bottom).

Velez’s FB friends were duly impressed:

“Go James!”

“Cool!”

“Very nice!!!!”
