A trip to a convenience store turned into a terrifying ordeal for a Florida man Tuesday night when a car smashed into the store and slammed into him.

According to a post from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, a 21-year-old driver said she hit the accelerator instead of the brakes outside the Plantation Pantry in Hutchinson Island.

Surveillance video provided to the law enforcement agency shows the mayhem.

A customer wearing a blue long sleeve shirt and shorts is walking out, carrying a box of beer. Just as he opens the door, a light-colored SUV smashes through the front of the store, directly into him and he is knocked off his feet and flies into the air. The video ends with the man lying crumpled on the ground, not moving.

“Just short of a miracle,” the victim is expected to recover, says the MCSO post.

When first responders tended to him, he was talking and remained “in unusually good spirits, asking deputies if his beer he just purchased was OK.”

The driver is likely to face charges for careless driving.

The situation could have been far more dire. Last month, a man was killed after a woman lost control of her car outside Call me Gaby restaurant in South Beach. Six others were injured.
