‘Dire situation’: Watch skydiver plummet to earth as parachute malfunctions in Florida
A thrill seeker in Florida lived to tell an amazing tale.
On an Instagram post earlier this week, a daredevil who goes by the name Boo Dacious posted a video of a “dire situation” that occurred over Deland in Central Florida in November 2021.
Dacious’ footage, obtained from a 360-degree camera on his helmet, shows him plummeting to earth, as his parachute won’t open.
You hear him grunting, cursing and yelling as he tumbles at great speed; the treetops in the distance getting closer and closer. Claude Debussy’s “Clair de Lune.” plays eerily in the background.
“What it feels like to survive a double malfunction uninjured,” says the computer-animated voice.
Dacious goes on to say the reason for the so-called double-mal (both the main and reserve chute failing) was that there was a knot in his parachute due to the improper way it was folded into the bag.
Eventually, the man is able to steer himself so that he lands on a briar patch. He breathes heavily in relief and exhaustion.
“Malfunctions are common in skydiving; however, the double parachute malfunction is feared, and to experience one and survive is few and far between,” says the caption. ‘To survive unscathed without a scratch is unheard of, and that’s what happened here to me.”
The man who did not want his name revealed told the Miami Herald on Friday he feels very lucky to be alive.
“I have two birthdays now.”
The only injuries he sustained were from thorns on his right hand.
“I still have a scar from it.”
