‘Grab her!’ Watch bodycam rescue of a driver trapped inside burning car in Florida
A dramatic and fiery rescue in Florida can be seen on newly released dashcam video.
According to a Facebook post from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, deputies on Dec. 29 responded to a car crash. A 2011 Infiniti G37 had smashed into a guardrail on the Suncoast Parkway in Land O ‘Lakes just after midnight.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that while the cause of the crash is under investigation, a 30-year-old Spring Hill resident was traveling south in the wrong lanes. After slamming into another car, a 2019 Ford Fusion, her Infiniti burst into flames.
In the video, the smoke-filled car is seen perilously hanging over the edge of the rail.
“Is someone in there?!” yells a deputy as he approaches the blaze, frantically trying to tame the flames with a fire extinguisher.
After expending three extinguishers, the post says, the deputy wearing the bodycam eventually bent the “badly damaged” driver’s side door down to pull out the woman, who is groaning under the air bag.
“Get her!” yells the deputy, coughing, while another deputy tugs at her arm and sirens wail in the background. “Grab her!”
Pasco Fire Rescue was soon on the scene and the victim was taken to the hospital with “incapacitating” injuries.
Deputies arrived before Pasco County Fire Rescue and used three fire extinguishers in an attempt to smother the flames but the sheriff’s office said the flames returned each time. Deputies eventually bent the badly damaged driver’s side door and get the woman out, according to the sheriff’s office.
“PSO deputies are never sure what each shift will bring,” according to the agency’s post. “We share video of this rescue to show the dangers our deputies face each shift.”
A blood test was given and toxicology results and any possible charges are pending, according to the FHP.
The other driver involved in the crash was taken to the hospital with “not incapacitating” injuries.
