Two people died after their SUV crashed early Tuesday morning into a pond near Disney World in Osceola County, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

A 25-year-old man from Valrico was traveling westbound on US-192 at 2:40 a.m. when he failed to maintain proper control in a curve while driving a 2018 Nissan Rogue — leaving the roadway and crashing into a pond.

A 28-year-old woman from Louisiana — a passenger in the vehicle — was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver later died at Celebration Hospital, the news release noted.

“The vehicle overturned into a pond and was partially submerged while upside down on its roof,” Lt. Kim Montes, a spokesperson of the FHP, said in an email Tuesday afternoon.

The incident is under investigation as authorities look into the cause of the crash, the FHP said.
