Smash and (hair) grab: Check out surveillance video of wig-store burglary in Florida
Talk about a hairy situation.
A Florida wig store needs the public’s help in solving a smash and grab that happened last week.
According to Sassy Sistas Boutique in Altamonte Springs, surveillance video caught three masked people (who appeared to be male in the fuzzy footage) storming the place early last Monday.
The suspects got away with 34 wigs — worth a total of $13,000, said the store via Instagram.
Social media pictures show the mess left behind, with mannequin heads, holiday ornaments, shattered glass and debris scattered about the floor.
The Sassy Sistas cash register, which they also nabbed, was later recovered at a nearby apartment complex, according to ClickOrlando.com. No cash was missing from the till, but losing the hairpieces was a huge hit, co-owner Jasmine Jackson told the media outlet.
“For us, $13,000 is a lot, that’s a pretty big deal,” she added. “It hurt us financially, mentally, you know our store is our livelihood. This is how we take care of our families.”
An online fundraiser has been created to help recoup the losses. The store also asks locals to be on the lookout for wigs being sold on such neighborhood websites as Craigslist and OfferUp.
Eboni Rainey, co-owner, told the Miami Herald that they celebrated their grand opening last month.
A spokesman for the Altamonte Springs Police Department says if the individuals are caught, they will face burglary charges.
