Florida nursing student from Hollywood wins $5 million in Lottery game

Correction: A previous version of this story gave an incorrect current job title for the Florida Lottery winner.

A Florida nursing student claimed a $5 million top prize from a LUCK Scratch-Off Game.

According to the the Florida Lottery, on Wednesday 29-year-old Reshena Clark, of Hollywood, opted to receive her winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $3,815,000.

“LUCK” seems to apply here.

Clark previously earned a Bright Futures Scholarship to study nursing. On her LinkedIn page, she lists the University of Central Florida in Orlando and Florida International University in Miami as schools where she studied nursing and health sciences as an undergraduate and graduate student, respectively, between 2011 and 2019.

She told lottery officials she’d like to pursue her career in nursing with some of her winnings.

“I feel like I’ve won the Florida Lottery twice now,” Clark said in a Lottery news release. “The Lottery-funded Bright Futures Scholarship is the reason I was able to attend college in the first place. Now that I’ve won as a player, I feel like everything has come full circle.”

Clark, a certified nursing assistant since 2013, according to Florida health department records, bought her winning ticket at a Circle K at 1515 North Main Street in Gainesville. The retailer scores a $10,000 bonus commission for selling the winning Scratch-Off ticket.

The $20 game, $5,000,000 LUCK, has been around since September 2019 and has delivered more than $329 million in cash prizes, including six top prizes of $5 million, according to the Lottery. The game’s overall odds of winning something are 1-in-2.97.
