Was it a shark bite? Surfer attacked by ‘toothy sea creature’ off Florida, officials say
Was it a shark bite?
That’s the question the folks over at Brevard County Fire Rescue couldn’t answer right away.
A Tuesday Tweet from the agency says that a surfer was attacked by a “toothy sea creature” that morning off Melbourne Beach. The word “shark” was conspicuously absent from the post.
The incident occurred at about 8 a.m.
The 25-year-old victim was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center nearby with an injury to his arm, which had “significant bleeding,” said the agency.
“It was severe enough that they thought he needed specialized attention at a trauma center,” Fire Chief Mark Schollmeyer told Click Orlando.
Brevard rescue officials confirmed to the Miami Herald Friday that the sea creature in question was, in fact, a shark. The victim was provided “advanced life support,” according to an incident report. The patient’s current condition is unknown.
