Alligator attacked woman as she was trimming trees near a Florida lake
A woman was trimming trees near a country club lake when a Florida alligator went after her legs.
The 10-foot alligator “ambushed” the 27-year-old North Fort Myers woman and bit her around 9:15 a.m. Thursday, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
Lee County Emergency Services treated the woman and Fish and Wildlife hired a nuisance alligator trapper.
NBC2 reporter Cristina Mendez posted photos of the gator along the lake at Heron’s Glen Road near the Herons Glen Country Club, after it was captured by trappers following the attack.
The gator measured 10 feet, 4 inches, FWC said in a statement.
The woman was hospitalized with wounds on both of her legs and was in stable condition at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, FWC said.
The gator was reportedly taken to an alligator farm.
Despite the prevalence of gators in the state, “serious injuries caused by alligators are rare in Florida,” FWC said.
