A deputy responded to an alligator call in Florida. He knocked the wind out of it

When is an alligator not an alligator?

When it’s a pool floatie.

That’s what one Florida deputy recently found out, according to a Wednesday Facebook post from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The agency said Master Deputy Mark Trexler responded to a call about an alligator hanging out where it shouldn’t be: in a storage shed.

A sheriff’s spokeswoman told the Miami Herald that the emergency call came in from the Mahogany Run apartment complex in Winter Haven at around 2 p.m. Aug. 22.

A resident told dispatchers that her husband went to their storage unit to get some boxes, saw the gator, and asked her to call the cops, according to the police report.

Upon further review, Trexler realized that the subject of the call was a lot less dangerous —unless you’re afraid of alligator-shaped pool floats.

“He came…he saw…he conquered the beast. He even knocked the wind out of it,” the agency said in the post. “Literally.”

A picture shows the deputy posing with the realistic looking green inflatable, complete with teeth and scales, which one astute commenter pointed out more resembles a crocodile thanks to the V-shaped snout.

We’re not going to gnaw on this pesky issue, as the thing in the shed is not actually alive.
