A senior citizen told Daytona Beach Shores police officers his concern about being hit by COVID-19 led to him being hit in a Publix parking lot.

And the 75-year-old said when he got dropped by a punch in the chest, his head smacked the asphalt.

According to Daytona Beach Shores Public Safety’s Facebook page, the septuagenarian said he was in a checkout line between 3 and 3:30 p.m. Sunday when he saw a fellow shopper closer than the marked COVID-19-prevention, social distancing guidelines. He said the woman moved back without a fuss.

But the senior citizen said he got punched in the parking lot minutes later. He saw the male puncher drive off in an older model dark-colored Cadillac, with the woman sitting in the passenger seat.

Daytona Beach Shores Public Safety says anyone with information on this can call 386-763-5347 or dcarrazana@cityofdbs.org.
