A ‘distraught’ senior citizen called 911 over a broken refrigerator. Cops responded

According to a Sunday Facebook post from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Cheryl Nanartonis of Jensen Beach made the emergency call because she was “distraught” that all her food would spoil.

“She said her resources were limited and she didn’t have the funds to buy a replacement,” the post said. “So Cheryl called 911. Although 911 is reserved for emergencies only, deputies were dispatched to Cheryl’s Jensen Beach home. They explained to Cheryl the importance of reserving 911 for emergencies only.”

Instead of arresting Nanartonis (misuse of 911 is a felony), officers took other action. They made an arrangement with a local Goodwill, which donated a gently used fridge to her home.

“The deputies even had it delivered,” concluded the post, “and Cheryl was back on track.”
