Diving into a Florida fish tank got him known. Drunken threats put him in jail, police say

One Florida man can’t stop diving into trouble.

Daniel Armendariz, who first made headlines in May for taking a dip in a Bass Pro Shops fish tank, was booked into a Lee County jail Wednesday morning on resisting arrest charges. The 27-year-old’s bond has yet to be set.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a Days Inn in the Fort Myers area after a caller reported someone had threatened them with a gun. That someone happened to be Armendariz, who deputies say they found at the scene with a pump-action shotgun and more than 200 rounds of ammunition stashed inside his vehicle.

Armendariz refused to comply with commands to exit the vehicle, so several deputies forcibly removed him. They all got into a struggle as deputies tried to detain him, police said.

Once inside the patrol vehicle, Armendariz banged his head and feet against the doors, according to the sheriff’s office. WBBH-TV reported that deputies eventually pepper-sprayed him. They say he reeked of alcohol.

This incident comes a little more than a month after Armendariz got slapped with a trespassing charge for causing roughly $3,100 in damage during his fish tank dive, according to a warrant. Court documents show he currently faces a separate charge for driving with an open container.
