An Orlando restaurant didn’t pay some workers, shorted others and owed them over $30,000

An Orlando restaurant paid workers $30,878 in back pay after violating minimum wage and overtime pay standards, the U.S. Department of Labor announced.

Guavate Restaurant’s catch-up payout went to 42 workers, an average of $735.19 per employee.

Labor’s Wage and Hour Division investigators found Guavate, registered with the state as Santos Burgos Corp., run by Dr. Leonor Santos and Rebecca Hanes, managed a hat trick of Fair Labor Standards Act violations:

Even when workers worked overtime, more than 40 hours a week, they were paid at regular rates.

Two employees didn’t get their final paychecks. Not being paid for work counts as a minimum wage violation.

Accurate payroll records weren’t kept, a common no-no among companies busted for owing back pay.
