A Florida teen went for a dip in the lake. An alligator was in the neighborhood, too

A Florida teenager will never forget this particular swim.

At around noon Tuesday, a 14-year-old by was taking a dip in a lake in his neighborhood in Placida when an alligator attacked him, WINK News first reported.

Todd Dunn, a spokesman from the Charlotte County Fire and EMS, confirmed the frightening incident to the Miami Herald.

Dunn said the boy, who was also out with his mother and their two dogs, suffered lacerations and an “open fracture” to his right knee. He was airlifted by Airlife to Tampa General Hospital. His medical condition was not available.

Trappers from the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission went to the lake to deal with the nine-foot, nine-inch long alligator, which was reportedly taken to a farm.

To attract the large reptile, the trappers reportedly played a recording of a baby alligator crying in distress.

FWC public information officer Adam Brown told YourSun.com that the gator was blind in one eye.

If you spot an alligator in your community, call the nuisance hotline at 866-FWCGATOR (866-392-4286).
