Despite thousands of TikTok followers, not everyone’s liking this Florida cop’s videos
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into one of their own.
Michael Dilks, a corporal, is in a wee bit of hot water for posting a few questionable TikTok videos, at least one of which features the b-word and calls the global pandemic “’Rona.”
Though Dilks, along with his wife, Heidi Dilks, appear to be shooting in their off time, in some instances, the officer is seen in uniform and in his marked vehicle.
The father of four has almost 62,000 followers and sees no issue with his posts.
“I‘m successful on TikTok because I’ve got a real connection with the viewers,’ the officer told The Daily Mail of the the former Musical.ly app. “My goal is to show cops are normal people who have some fun. It’s all tasteful. Nothing crazy. And 95 percent of the posts are done off-duty.”
Many of his videos make light of the COVID-19 outbreak.
In one clip, Dilks is seen up on his kitchen counter holding toilet paper with Cardi B’s remix rant, “Coronavirus! Hahaha!” as water floods the home.
For the most part. the Vero Beach couple lip sync to various hip hop songs and do voice-overs, as is common with participants of this social media platform. In one, Dilks claims he is not racist.
“I would never hate a man for what God gave him in pigments,” he mouths the words of the 2018 rap song “White Boy” by Tom MacDonald. “I would never judge a human for the cards he was given or call him lesser than myself ‘coz of the race he was mixed with.”
The videos have been deemed “racist” by local NAACP President Anthony J. Brown.
It is unclear if any action will be taken, but one video that reportedly featured a song with the n-word was taken down.
“We are aware of the situation and currently conducting an internal inquiry,” Eric Flowers, IRCSO public information officer told the Miami Herald via email on Monday.
