Two killed after small plane crashes in Central Florida neighborhood, officials say

Two people were killed when their small plane crashed in Central Florida late Thursday morning, according to Polk County Fire Rescue.

The crash happened just before 11:30 a.m. in Bartow about two miles from the city’s airport.

Arriving rescue crews found a single-engine, fixed-winged aircraft in a resident’s front yard. The plane’s two occupants were dead. Their names have yet to be released.

No one on the ground was injured.

It’s unclear what caused the crash. Fire-rescue officials did not see a fuel leak or fire when they arrived, according to Spectrum Bay News 9.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration will conduct the investigation.
