‘He won’t wake up!’ 911 call released after ‘Bachelorette’ contestant’s death in Boca
While friends and family mourn “The Bachelorette” star Tyler Gwodz, a criminal investigation is under way on what caused the Florida man’s death earlier this month.
Authorities first confirmed to the Palm Beach Post that the investigation began Jan. 13, shortly after a friend of Gwodz’s hysterically called 911 saying that he had locked himself in her bathroom at her Boca Raton home.
The Miami Herald obtained a copy of the 911 call.
“I think my friend overdosed and he won’t wake up!” says the woman.
“Is he breathing?” asks the operator.
“I don’t know. I can’t get in there.”
“OK, where is he?”
“He’s in my bathroom. He’s, like, not responsive ... please send an ambulance!”
“Do you know what he took?”
“Heroin,” the caller cries. “I don’t know.”
When asked if there is Narcan — a medication that counters the effects of an opioid overdose — available, the woman responds she doesn’t know where it is.
The caller tells the operator that she broke open the bathroom door and found Gwodz on his side. She is instructed to turn him onto his back.
“Wake up! Look at me!” cries the woman as the dispatcher asks if Gwodz is breathing. “Please wake up! Please!”
The rescue crew arrives and other voices and loud banging noises are heard and the call ends.
Nine days later, on Jan. 22, the 29-year-old Boca Raton resident died of a suspected overdose in a local hospital, Page Six reported. Autopsy results could take “10 to 12 weeks, the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office told the Miami Herald.
“We are heartbroken to hear the tragic news of Tyler’s passing today,” “The Bachelorette” producers said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the Gwozdz family and his friends.”
Gwozdz, aka Tyler G, abruptly left Brown’s season (15) of “The Bachelorette,” on the May 27, 2019, episode after just three weeks. His departure was never explained.
