A mixed martial arts fighter didn’t want to get a DUI. So cops said he made them an offer

A Florida man thought he could get out of trouble by offering up his professional services.

It didn’t work out so well.

According to a police report from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Calen Holcomb, a mixed martial arts fighter, was attempting to park his white pickup truck outside the Slide Inn Bar in Cape Canaveral on Sunday night. An officer observed Holcomb’s truck backing up, and narrowly miss slamming into the building.

The driver appeared to be intoxicated, smelling of alcohol with “red, bloodshot and glassy eyes,” according to the report.

After the 34-year-old suspect refused to complete field sobriety tests or a breath test, he was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.

During the arrest, the report says that Holcomb made “multiple offers” to give the deputies a month of free MMA classes if they let him go, the complaint said.

On their way to jail, a “combative” Holcomb also offered to do favors for the deputies, such as “cause physical harm to other suspects of law enforcement cases for deputies as payment.”

The Orlando native faces charges of not only DUI, but also bribery of or by public servant, a felony.
