This Florida city has some of the ‘scroogiest’ drivers. It’s not the one you’re thinking.
The holiday season can bring out the best in people, but it is no match for road rage and hot-blooded Floridians.
If you ever thought people seemed angrier over the holidays when they’re behind the wheel, you might be on to something.
GasBuddy, a smartphone app that helps consumers compare gas prices, found that consumers driving in certain cities are nearly 20% more aggressive than average during the holidays.
The app examined millions of drives during the Thanksgiving holiday week, from Nov. 27 - Dec. 1, noting the frequency of aggressive events while driving: rapid acceleration, hard braking and speeding.
It comes as no surprise that Florida has made it on that list, but it’s not Miami that secured a spot as one of the top 10 cities with the most aggressive holiday drivers.
Coming in at number eight, Orlando drivers are 10% more aggressive than average drivers. Miami trailed far behind at number 26.
Orlando also came in at number five for top cities with speeding incidents. Orlando drivers have 50% more speeding incidents than the average U.S. driver during the holidays. Surprisingly, Miami drivers have 9% fewer speeding incidents than the average.
Miami did top the charts for rapid acceleration. Coming in at third, drivers have 15% more rapid acceleration incidents.
So while the holiday season may be calming Miami drivers, Orlando isn’t having the same luck. But this is to be expected.
A study from CenturyLink says Florida ranks near the bottom of U.S. states with Christmas spirit. The state that has no idea what a white Christmas is came in at 47.
The study decided the ranks based on 10 factors, some being number of Christmas songs streamed, number of tweets related to Christmas and Google searches for Christmas movies and gingerbread houses.
