Trio’s porch pirate scheme unraveled by Florida cops. They say UPS driver tipped off pair
There seems to be a new scheme in the package porch theft sweepstakes this holiday season.
According to Seminole County Sheriff’s Office deputies, three people — led by a seasonal UPS delivery truck driver — teamed up to steal packages from a home in Lake Mary, Florida, on Thursday.
Detectives say Okoye Manley, 28, was the uniformed UPS driver who, after dropping off a package at a home, would then signal Tanjinika Wright, 31, and Dekeria Wright, 26, who were driving behind him, with a text message that he just made his delivery to a porch. He told them no one was home.
Except someone was at home, expecting the delivery of a $500 Dyson vacuum cleaner, Click Orlando reported.
About eight minutes later, police — who watched the scheme via surveillance video provided by the homeowner who called officers — say that Dekeria, who was doing the driving, pulled up to the house in the 3000 block of Dellcrest Place. Tanjinika then hopped out and stole the package off the victim’s porch.
That’s how it was supposed to work.
Instead, the three were booked into jail on multiple felony charges, including burglary of an occupied structure and grand theft. Tanjinika Wright was also wanted on unrelated aggravated battery charges. It wasn’t clear if the Wrights are related.
