A Florida ex couple have been arrested after deputies say their 1-year-old baby boy ingested an unknown amount of morphine.

In a Facebook post, the Baker County Sheriff’s Office reports that units responded to a Macclenny home on Feb. 10 and spoke to Chrystal Baker, who told officers that she had left the child in the care of the father, Seth Baker, to go out to party with her boyfriend, who happens to be her ex’s brother and roommate.

When mom returned home, she told deputies that Seth Baker, 29, appeared to be under the influence. She said the father admitted to her that the baby had gotten hold of some morphine pills. She called police and the baby boy was transported to a local hospital with the mother.

After a search of the home, deputies found six morphine pills, 5.8 grams of crystal methamphetamine and pipes, all basically out in the open.

“These items were found to be in reach and accessible to the child,” says the post.

Seth was arrested and faces a felony charge of child neglect causing great bodily harm.

A warrant check revealed that Chrystal Baker, 32, was wanted in Baker County, near Jacksonville, on theft charges. When police went to the hospital to arrest her, she ran off to a Red Roof Inn nearby, where she was apprehended in the lobby. She is charged with resisting arrest without violence.

The child is fine, according to deputies. The Department of Children and Families placed him with a relative, Baker County Sheriff Scotty Rhoden told News4Jax.

“As bad as it is, this one actually turned out well because the child is safe now,” Rhoden said.
