Kenneth Gray went from fighting fires to starting them, police say.

Gray, a former West Palm Beach firefighter, is accused of committing arson by starting a fire inside a Walmart, CBS12 reported.

The goal? To distract employees as he walked out with a cart full of unpaid items alongside his wife and child, surveillance videos shows.

Gray was ultimately arrested and charged with first degree arson and petty theft. He made his first court appearance on Wednesday.

The judge ordered that he stay at least 500 feet away from all Walmart stores, reported the Associated Press.

Gray was fired from the fire department last year. He is also facing other theft and burglary charges after he stole an electrical saw from a city fire rescue ambulance. His wife later pawned the saw.
