Woman breaks her arm and leg jumping out of third-story window to escape ex-boyfriend

A 27-year-old woman broke her arm and leg after she had to jump out of a window from her third-story apartment to get away from her ex-boyfriend. A few hours earlier detectives say he rammed his pickup truck into her car, forcing her to escape out of the backseat at a gas station.

Henry Cokley, 35, is charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, obstructing justice and domestic battery. He is being held at the Sarasota County jail on bonds totaling $327,000.

Cokley’s ex-girlfriend ended their relationship after an incident that occurred on Oct. 13, but when she came home that night she found him sleeping in her bed, according to an arrest report. The couple had not been living together.

She left, detectives say, leaving behind a note asking him to leave before she returned from a friend’s house.

At 10 a.m. the next day, Cokley’s ex-girlfriend was driving home when Cokley allegedly slammed into the back of her Honda with his F-250. She sped away, according to the arrest report, but he caught up to her and rammed her car again.

Detectives say when she pulled into a Wawa gas station, he followed her and drove into the driver’s side of her car, pushing it several feet onto the concrete curb. She was forced to climb into the backseat to escape out of the car, but as she was running away, he caught up to her.

Surveillance video allegedly shows Cokley grabbing her by the hair, pulling her onto the ground and punching her several times.

At 2:19 p.m. that same day, the sheriff’s office received several calls about a disturbance at the victim’s house and reported seeing her jump from the window of her third story apartment. Cokley had allegedly gone back to her apartment and was banging and yelling at her outside the front door.

When she heard him inside the apartment and in fear of her life, the victim jumped out of her bedroom window. According to investigators, it appeared Cokley got into the apartment by breaking a front window.
