Alligator attacks groin and bites off toes of man bathing in Florida pond
An alligator attacked and injured a homeless man while he was bathing himself in a retention pond in Charlotte County, according to several news reports.
The attack Monday morning, which happened near the intersection of Kings Highway and Suncoast Boulevard, left 68-year-old Fredrick Iman with bites to his leg, foot and groin, according to NBC2 in Fort Myers.
A woman who called 911 said, “It bit his toes off,” according to a recording of the call.
Iman was flown by helicopter to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, where he was listed in fair condition, according to NBC2.
The alligator was trapped and removed from the area.
Another television station, WFTX in Fort Myers, said it was at least the fifth alligator attack in southwest Florida in recent weeks.
In another attack in Charlotte County, a man on July 7 was bitten and injured while he was diving in a pond for golf balls.
