3 companies recall cookies — and one specifies Miami stores as receiving them
Three companies recalled chocolate cookies after a mistake by one of those companies created a situation that can be “serious or life-threatening” for some consumers.
Here’s a breakdown of the problem.
What cookies are recalled and where are they sold?
▪ Lipari Foods recalled 14-ounce plastic containers of JLM Dark Chocolate Nonpareils, lot Nos. 28202501A, 29202501A, 23202504A, 14202505A, 15202505A, and 03202506A. These went to stores nationwide.
If you have questions about this recall, reach out to Lipari at 586-447-3500, ext. 9720.
▪ International Foodsource recalled 10-ounce packages of SE Grocers Dark Chocolate Nonpareils. C&S Wholesale Grocers distributed the cookies to retailers in Miami; Baldwin, Florida; Plant City, Florida; and Hammond, Louisiana. Check the back label for lot Nos. 242645, 238466, 235643, 237319, 241581 or 239202.

▪ Weaver Nut Company pulled Semi-Sweet Chocolate Nonpareils with Christmas Seeds (lot Nos. 204206, 204207, 204208, 204209, 204212 and 224225) and Semi-Sweet Chocolate Nonpareils with White Seeds (lot Nos. 204214-RL, 204214, 204215, 224221, 224222, 224223, 135215, 135216, 135217, 135220, 135221, 145204, 145205-1, 145207-1 and 145210-1) from stores nationwide.
Weaver’s customer contact person is Chris Westerhoff, and he can be called at 717-738-3781, ext 122, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Eastern time, or emailed at cwesterhoff@weavernut.com.
Why were these nonpareils recalled?
Weaver Nut Company manufactured all of the above, but in sending out the nonpareils, didn’t note that they contained milk. So, none of the packaging of the above lists milk among the allergens. That’s an unnoticed mistake for most people, a dangerous mistake for people with a milk allergy.
As each of the above recall notices state, “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.”
What do you do now?
If there’s no chance someone with a milk allergy will eat these nonpareils, continue on as normal. Otherwise, return them to the store where you bought them for a refund or at least throw them away.
