Recalled alligators were mislabeled dangerously as chocolate-covered cherries
Because folks with food allergies pay close attention to ingredient labels, Abdallah Candies recalled some packs of Sea Salt Almond Alligators on the risk that the title on the front would be ignored for the ingredients label on the back.
The misplaced ingredients label is for Chocolate Covered Cherries. Those don’t have almonds, so almonds aren’t listed among the allergens.
“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” Abdallah’s FDA-posted recall notice says.
The 8-ounce packs of Alligators recalled went to retail stores from March 1 through March 29 and have code No. 0315 at the bottom center of the ingredient label.
If there’s any chance someone with an almond allergy will eat these, return them to the store for a full refund or throw them in the garbage.
