A burned thumb led to the recall of 87,000 personal massagers that can overheat

You expect personal massagers to make you feel better, not to burn your flesh or your possessions. This truth caused HoMedics to recall about 87,000 Therapist Select Percussion Personal Massagers in the United States and Canada.

The exact problem, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice: “The massagers can overheat while charging, posing fire and burn hazards.”

HoMedics knows of 17 times the massagers overheated, including one that resulted in a burned thumb.

This covers model No. HHP-715 massagers made before the end of 2022. The sticker on the bottm of the barrel has a 4-digit date code. The last two numbers are the year of manufacture. Massagers with those last two numbers of 20, 21 or 22 are in this recall.

HoMedics takes the financial hit on this recall, offering a full refund or a full refund plus 20% credit toward any HoMedics product. But, they want customers to take a picture of the massager showing the “HoMedics” name; a picture of the sticker on the underside of the massager; a picture of the power adapter’s cut cord; and a copy of the receipt of purchase.

To find out where to send the above or to have any other questions answered, call Homedics at 800-466-3342, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Eastern time, Monday through Friday.
