Why there’s a recall of frozen waffles — two flavors — posted to the Publix website
Nature’s Path Organic Foods Pumpkin Spice and Dark Chocolate Chip waffles are gluten free, but one lot of each flavor has been recalled because they might not also be peanut free.
They’re supposed to be, which is why peanuts aren’t listed among the allergens in the ingredient box. But Nature’s Path says the waffles in the recalled lots might “contain trace amounts of undeclared peanuts.”
For those who have a peanut allergy, there’s “the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.”
Publix posted Nature’s Path Organic Foods’ recall notice the day after the FDA did.
“The issue stemmed from a manufacturing error through an external partner that produces products for Nature’s Path Organic Foods,” the notice said.
The recalled products
▪ Organic Pumpkin Spice waffles: Have a best by date of 2023 OCT 24, lot No. 2C110242 and UPC No. 0 5844959077 4.
▪ Organic Dark Chocolate Chip waffles: Best by 2023 OCT 26, lot No. 2C110262 and UPC No. 0 5844916701 3.
What to do about the recall
▪ Carry on as normal if you have the recalled waffles, but there are no peanut allergies among those who might eat them. If there is a peanut allergy, return them to the store of purchase.
