Family Dollar recalls 300 products, including Flintstones vitamins and marijuana tests

For the second consecutive year, Family Dollar has recalled hundreds of over-the-counter basics after the discount chain stored them “outside of labeled temperature requirements,” then shipped them to stores to be sold.

Last year’s recall involved over 400 similar medicine cabinet staples that went to stores across the country. This year’s recall involves over 300 products and 23 states.

Earlier in 2022, a rodent infestation at a Family Dollar distribution facility caused a recall of over-the-counter drugs, dietary supplements, food and medical devices.

Family Dollar is owned by Dollar Tree.

Here are the details on the recall made by Family Dollar on Thursday and posted to the FDA website on Tuesday:

What toothpastes, vitamins, medicines, etc. have been recalled?

The diversity of what’s recalled can be found in the first 10 products on an eight-page PDF that lists everything recalled in order of stock-keeping unit (SKU) number.

Those 10: A&D Ointment; NyQuil Cold & Flu Liquid; Clearblue Pregnancy Test; Swan Mouthwash; Crest Tarter Protection toothpaste; Colgate Total Whitening toothpaste; Aleve Arthritis gelcaps; Bayer Back & Body, Extra Strength caplets; Alive PM caplets; and Quality Plus Allergy Diphenhydramine tablets.

What Family Dollar stores got recalled products?

What’s recalled was sent to stores in Florida, California, Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

The recalled products were sold from June 1 through Oct. 4. Not all products went to all stores.

What should you do if you have one of these products?

Acknowledging customers aren’t likely to have kept the receipts for Flintstones Chewables vitamins or at-home marijuana test strips bought weeks or months ago, Family Dollar is allowing returns to the store of purchase without receipt.

Anyone with questions about the recall can call Family Dollar, 844-636-7687, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Eastern time.

If any of these products causes any form of sickness, see a medical professional. Then notify the FDA via the MedWatch reporting program, either online or by calling 800-332-1088 for a form you can fill out and send to the FDA.
