A seltzer could hospitalize or kill some folks. That’s why a Miami company recalled it
Miami’s Kula Brands recalled one lot of Kula Can Piña Colada + Kratom Seltzer after learning of a mistake that can make their product dangerous to a fatal level for people with certain food allergies.
“The recall was initiated after it was discovered that product containing (the allergen) was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of tree nuts (coconut) and milk,” Kula’s FDA-posted recall notice said. “Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes.”
People with food allergies, especially severe ones that can lead to death if triggered, rely on ingredient labels that list allergens accurately. People with a milk allergy or tree nut allergy could grab a can of the recalled lot, check the label, then down the seltzer in the erroneous belief that it’s safe for them.
