Kraft recalls American cheese singles after customers said they ‘choked or gagged’

Kraft Heinz made a not-food-in-your-food recall of Kraft Singles American cheese Tuesday after a wrapping machine malfunction created a choking situation with the lunch sandwich and home-cooked cheeseburger staple.

About 83,800 cases got pulled because “thin strip” of the plastic on each processed cheese slice might not come off when the rest of the wrapping is peeled off, Kraft Heinz explained in Tuesday’s recall announcement.

“If the film sticks to the slice and is not removed, it could be unpleasant and potentially cause a gagging or choking hazard,” the announcement said. “The issue was discovered after we received several consumer complaints about finding the plastic stuck to a slice, including six complaints of consumers saying they choked or gagged in connection with the issue.”
