18,000 packs of Hillshire Farm sausage recalled after bone causes a mouth injury

The long list of ingredients in sausage doesn’t include bone fragments, which is why about 18,144 packs of Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage made with pork, turkey and beef got pulled in a not-food-in-your-food recall.

Similar to ConAgra’s Banquet TV dinner recall, Hillshire Brands made the recall after finding out the hard way about the hard stuff in its food product.

The USDA recall notice says Hillshire told the agency’s Food Safety Inspection Service it had gotten complains about bone fragments in the sausage. FSIS also got a complaint about badly placed bone.

“There has been one reported oral injury associated with consumption of this product,” the recall notice stated.

This covers the lots with a use by date of Nov. 11, 2023 and lot codes “EST. 756A 20 19:00:00 through 21:59:59” and “EST. 756A 21 19:00:00 through 21:59:59.” “EST. 756A” is on the front of the package. They went to stores in California, North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Mexico, and Virginia.
