Plastic in the beef causes a USDA public health alert about premium meat sold at Aldi

The USDA issued a public health alert about Aldi’s store brand USDA Black Angus Beef for Carne Picada after one of the chain’s stores reported a problem: plastic.

“Soft, clear plastic” in the Beef for Carne Picada, to be exact. An alert was issued for 1.5-pound plastic trays with a use by or freeze by date of Aug. 22, 2023, Julian Date 206, and time stamp between 08:43 through 09:23.

A public health alert gets issued instead of a recall when the product is no longer for sale, but still might be in consumers’ homes.

If you have this beef, return it to the store for a full refund or at least throw it in the garbage. To get questions answered about this alert, call food giant Cargill at 844-419-1574.
