Recalls

A possibly ‘serious’ mistake caused a Tostitos salsa dip to be recalled nationwide

What’s in jars of Tostitos Avocado Salsa Dips doesn’t match what’s on the back of some jars, which is why they got recalled Friday.

“While the front of the affected jar is correctly labeled as Tostitos Avocado Salsa, the back of the jar is mislabeled with another product’s nutrition information and declarations,” the Frito Lay-written, FDA-posted recall notice said. “As a result, the allergen milk is not declared on the label.”

That’s a non-issue for most people. That’s a major issue for people with a milk allergy.

As the notice states, “Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.”

What’s recalled comes in 15-ounce jars with a best by date of 02 NOV 2023 or 03 NOV 2023. They hit stores and were available for online sale nationwide on April 5.

If you have this and there’s any chance someone with a milk allergy might eat the dip, return it to the store for a full refund. Or, at least, toss it in the trash.

Questions about this recall can be answered by Frito-Lay 800-352-4477, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Eastern time.
