Chili that the USDA bought for school lunches recalled after plastic spotted in the food

A not-food-in-your-food recall hit about 22,530 pounds of chili bought for the USDA’s National School Lunch Program after “a customer complaint about semi-rigid white plastic material” in the chili.

Sunday’s USDA’s notice announced J.T.M. Provisions Company’s recall of ready-to-eat frozen beef chili with beans.

USDA Foods bought the 30-pound cases, each with six 5-pound boilable bags, with lot No. 23058 and February 27, 2023, on the cases. The chili went to distributors in California, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Wisconsin.

“School nutrition professionals who have purchased these products are urged not to prepare or consume them,” the USDA said. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

Customers with questions about this recall can contact J.T.M.’s CFO Matt Montgomery at 513-367-4900 or mmontgomery@jtmfoodgroup.com.
