Trader Joe’s hummus tubs recalled in Florida and 13 other states. Hummus isn’t inside
Trader Joe’s Genova Pesto is being recalled for a mistake that could be deadly for some people.
The recall alert by Bakkavor USA, which made the recalled pesto, says it got packaged in 7-ounce tubs for Trader Joe’s Hummus Dip.
So, the top says Genova Pesto, and there’s pesto inside the tub — but the ingredients on the tub’s side list those of hummus dip. That means milk and walnuts aren’t listed as allergens.
Though “HUMMUS DIP” is in rather large letters on the side of the tub, it’s possible someone shopping at speed could grab the tub, quickly glance at the ingredients, think it’s free of milk and walnuts, and go on with shopping.
“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk or walnuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product,” the recall notice states.
These tubs have UPC code No. 0015 7353 on the side and a use by date of 05/27/2023. The time stamp, on the tub bottom, will be between 06:28 and 07:07. They went to Trader Joe’s stores April 28 through April 30 in Florida, California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, and Washington.
If you have this pesto and it might be eaten by someone with a milk or walnut allergy, return it to the store for a full refund. If you have questions about the recall, call Bakkavor at 855-321-7504, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m, Eastern time.
