This tahini has been recalled on salmonella concerns for the second time in nine months
For the second time in nine months, Rushdi Food Industries recalled Mighty Sesame Organic Tahini 10.9 ounce bottles because they might be contaminated with salmonella.
The company-written, FDA-posted recall notice says the tahini went to stores in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut “as well as some stores nationwide” from Feb. 23 through March 5. The “some stores nationwide” might not be only Walmart stores in 29 states, but definitely includes the stores in the 24-page PDF posted by the chain last week.
This might sound familiar to tahini lovers and folks who keep up with food recalls. In August, the same tahini in the same bottles got recalled in the New York tri-state area as well as Walmart’s nationwide for the same reason.

Salmonella strikes 1.35 million Americans each year, according to the CDC. Of that group, it hospitalizes about 26,500 and kills 420. Most at risk for the worst effects are senior citizens, children under 5 and those with damaged immune systems. Most people get fever, vomiting, stomachaches and diarrhea that starts around 12 to 72 hours after eating the tainted food and run for four to seven days.
If you have this tahini in the 10.9-ounce squeeze bottles with 9/25/23 expiration date, return it to the store for a full refund. Or, throw it in the garbage. Definitely don’t eat it.
